Best Strawberry Banana Smoothie

One of the best ways to enjoy summer is drinking a cold and refreshing smoothie made from fresh ingredients. I’m definitely a smoothie lover as it’s so easy to toss a bunch of ingredients into my Vitamix and 30 seconds later have an amazing drink.

And with strawberries in abundance in the markets right now, it only makes sense to whip up this classic strawberry banana smoothie recipe. I can get fancy with smoothies and include chia seeds, collagen, hemp seeds and other fun ingredients, but a simple, straightforward smoothie is just as delicious.

So think of this strawberry banana smoothie as your little black dress. It’s a classic. Because what’s not to love about fresh, seasonal strawberries, sweet bananas and creamy yogurt?

My Strawberry Banana Smoothie Tips

  • Don’t use all frozen fruit. If you were to use both frozen strawberries and a frozen banana, you’re likely to end up with a super thick texture more similar to my Strawberry Frozen Yogurt recipe. So instead, use fresh strawberries and a frozen banana. If you only have frozen strawberries, let them thaw before using.
  • Don’t add any sugar. It’s crazy that some recipes call for a sweetener with a full fruit smoothie. Mother nature has given us plenty of sweetness in the strawberries and banana so there’s no need to add extra sugar.
  • Make it with dairy or dairy-free. You can make this strawberry banana smoothie with dairy or dairy-free/vegan. I’ve got recipes for both homemade yogurt and a dairy-free coconut yogurt. You can also use regular milk or my cashew milk or any healthy store-bought dairy-free milk or yogurt options as well.
  • Don’t add ice. Using a frozen banana in the recipe keeps the drink cold, but it doesn’t water it down. Adding ice to smoothies makes them watery pretty quickly.

How to Make a Strawberry Banana Smoothie

It truly is as easy as adding the strawberries, frozen banana, milk and yogurt to your blender and blending until nice and creamy. If you make it as per the recipe below, it should be cold and drinkable but not too thick. The perfect consistency!

  1. Nice, simple recipe. I will say though regarding the ice/no ice discussion. I like some in mine just because I prefer a thinner consistency and don’t feel like it takes away from the flavor, and it chills the smoothie a bit.4 stars

  3. I just wanted to know what size blending cup you use so I know I won’t over fill it.like 16oz, 18, 24oz ect?5 stars

    1. Hi Chris – I haven’t used a blending cup with this recipe, so not sure what size is best. I’d start with the largest size though.

  4. I made the strawberry smoothie for my daughter and she loved it
She asked me to make another one the next day
Thank you for all your recipes

  5. Delicious! I add fresh basil to mine if I have it. Just a little extra flavor profile…..especially when basil is in abundance in the summer.

  6. This was simple and oh so delicious and creamy. I made the original and another version with blueberries ( I’m obsessed with blueberries) and spinach and both were incredible!5 stars

  7. Perfect first smoothie for our new blender. Perfect consistency and sweetness. Can’t wait to make more. This is the perfect base to start experimenting.5 stars

  8. Great smoothie! I added flax seeds and collagen powder for youth, mix salad greens for energy and oat milk instead of dairy.
For calcium intake raw sesame seeds are the thing to go to! They have more calcium than milk, cheese etc. Nature provides!5 stars

  9. Amazing!!! Made with only one cup of strawberries instead of two because I wanted just one serving. Definitely gonna be making it again:)5 stars

  10. Omg this smoothie Is the best movie that I’ve ever made I put instead of Greek yogurt I put coconut yogurt and then instead of milk I put half-and-half and more bananas and a little bit of sugar it was perfect thank you so much for this recipe😊☺️

  11. My son is super picky about his smoothies, and he loves this one! It is just the right amount of thickness for him and super tasty with such few ingredients!5 stars

  12. just a question is the nutrition says 198 calories and two servings. Would it be 198 calories for each serving? Or for the whole recipe? 5 stars

  13. It’s so good! Followed the recipe exactly. Next time I will only thin it out with a little more milk. This was enough for me and my 2yo. Thanks!

  14. I made a half serving to try it, vanilla yogurt, milk, frozen strawberries fresh banana and it was thick, next time I’ll try with double the milk, I think that will thin it up slightly so it can go through a straw easier. Or maybe the extra milk in the full serving will be better. Definitely no sugar needed either

    1. This smoothie is meant to be on the thicker side. But you can always thin it down by adding more milk and less yogurt :)

  15. This is the very best smoothie I’ve ever made! I used frozen strawberries and a ripe banana since that’s what I had on hand and it was perfectly thick and delicious. 5 stars

  16. I had given up on smoothies but this recipe was amazing. I added a little bit of honey and it was excellent! 5 stars

  17. Where is the bulk of the sugar coming from? i know part is from the fruit but as a diabetic I am concerned about the 20 grams of sugar.
    Thanks
    George

  18. Delicious and perfect recipe. Great tip about using frozen and nonfrozen fruits. Thank you!

Also works with blueberries i/o strawberries as I tried that day 2.

  19. Hi Lisa. I just started watching your YouTube videos & think they’re great! When I order a smoothie at a shop I get banana, peanut butter, granola & almond milk. I’ve tried to duplicate this at home but can’t seem to get it right. Any suggestions on measurements for this ? Thank you, Karol

    1. You can if you’d like, but it will make it a little less creamy. I would also replace it with another 1/2 cup of milk to keep the ratios the same.

  20. Taste is phenomenal! I never thought of putting Greek yogurt in a smoothie! I also used vanilla honey Greek yogurt, and my picky 7 year old loves it!5 stars

    1. Wondeful recipe, i used vanilla yogurt instead and frozen strawberry/banana blend with 1 fresh banana and a squirt of honey and i love it and it is toddler approved :)4 stars

  21. This is the first smoothie my 15 month daughter has ever had and she loved it! I love it too! Thanks so much for your great recipes!5 stars
